No, no YOU stop. This guild has been around for at least a year. Some carebear prude sees the name, and I'm /amazed/ they knew what it meant, and reported it. Godlike. How it even got banned it beyond me.

Hilariously, those are the exact same words I would use to describe anyone who supports this ban, whoever reported this ban, and whoever okayed the ban at Anet.

Also, you're a community rep, try to tone down the ABSOLUTELY condescending tone you maintain here 24/7. You're offending me. I wish I were in ULGG so I could report that.

Is it offensive? To some, yes.

Is it inappropriate? To many, including myself, definitely.

The guild leader took a chance in giving the guild that name, and lost. I feel no sympathy at all.

Gaile: If [Vibe] was banned for their name, that's fine. I have no problem with that. The only problem I have is how long it took you to do it. If a guild is going to exist that long and be that prominent, I'm sorry, but you lose your right to ban it for its name. It's exactly the same attitude taken toward Jade. You acknowledge the map is broken, yet leave it in the rotation as-is for coming up on a year. F*** TPS reports and do stuff.

Look "Gaile" Banning offensive names is all fine and dandy. However - banning a name that has been considered within the limits for the past YEAR +... is pretty ridiculous. If you ban a guild after they form - so what, they haven't been around much and can reform. You ban a guild that has been around for EVER - INCLUDING GETTNIG A SILVER CAPE. That is just down-right idiotic and childish.

Seriously re-consider this course of action.

See, Vibe got silver capes and did ok in the tourney, that's why they chose this time to ban them. I mean what good is it to ban them when they don't have that stuff? Maximum possible damage this way.

People, lighten up on Gaile. She is the community representative. She doesn't call the shots. It is her job to represent Anet, whether or not she agrees with them, as it is not her position to think for them.

I think for a guild with a trimmed cape, they should have been given the chance to change the name.

That said, come on people... ANet does have to protect it's business. I can't speak for computers and internet regulations, but I know from dealing with OSHA, VPP Star and the various ISO's that things that we consider harmless, and in truth ARE harmless, can be marked up on an audit and cost you $$$ or worse. Appearance counts more than practice in many cases. Yes, it can be smoke and mirrors, and it sucks, but it's just a fact of life.

While 99% of the gaming community may not have a problem with [vibe], all it takes is one auditor who is recertifying the ages 12+ thingymabob to be concerned, and suddenly ANet is getting nasty emails and having to do corrective actions and worse.

[vibe] does not bother me, but apparently it was enough of a red flag, regardless of how late it was caught, to be of concern. Instead of bashing each other, how about using this thread to find a happy compromise. For instance, allow them to keep the trim and change the name of the guild.

Everyone is so indignant about what happened to [Vibe] because they imagine some statute of limitations existing on how long after a guild has been made (especially one as long lived and well known as [Vibe]) that it can still be banned for indecency - indecency apparently being defined to include harmless double entendres. Unfortunately that's an idea reserved for happy fairy land where facism doesn't exist.

While it's true that ANet has full discretion over what constitutes an inappropriate guild name, it seems like a little discretion in using that power ought to exist. The fact that *somebody* (and nobody really cares who) found this name offensive enough to strip this guild of it's right to play AFTER it existed at the forefront of competitive GvG for months, and AFTER it successfully competed in the most recent tournament is stupid, unfeeling, lame, pathetic, and a dozen other words for "loser," actually.

So up your nose with a rubber hose ANet. If you want to start waving the banhammer I'm sure that in the time it's taken me to post, a dozen other posters have already suggested other better candidates for your wrath. Nobody here can argue your authority on the matter, but what you've done to this guild is simply unjustafiable. Use a little god-given common sense ffs.

tell me, which one cant i utter around 12 year olds? you need to extrapolate to get something which can be deemed offensive out of this. this means you have to bring the offensive connotation yourself. how can you do so and be offended? really?

i can extrapolate all kinds of offensive things out of those, perhaps all instances of those should be banned.

Wow...

I laughed when I read that name and no offense guys I know an officer of ULGG they wouldn't do that crap. Hell, I've met their top guild leader in the middle of rolepaly, and yes Roleplayers are just as bad as normal players. Hell, I've had characters making references, towards very mature things. But you know what, I've never had a complaint because I do it tastefully, like [Vibe] did.

So, stop ripping on one guild and really. Most likely some over reactive parent saw the name or some righteous right wing nut had you guys banned. I've been suspended and was never given a reason. Plus, your guild was at the top for PvP and you did make enemies, which means >> THAT you were most likely zapped by your foes first.

That and sheesh people need to learn that PvP isn't everything. Remake the guild, kick some ass and prove your above a name.

Say that when your top 50 silver trim guild gets banned. I'm positive your attitude would change.

Roleplayers are 10x worse than normal players.

PvP for a PVP GUILD, is EVERYTHING. Are you dumb? They basically stripped the guild of outward signs of their accomplishments. And Vibe has been highly ranked before. No one ever did anything back then.

And /I'm/ a right wing nut. So **** that noise.

Way to take things out of context. The names you would not want to be seen are NOT the name of the guild we're talking about. I'm sorry, perhaps I was not clear or maybe you just want to pick a fight. We block a lot of offensive names that you would not want your kid sister to see. NOT this guild. NOT those words. I changed to a broader topic; maybe I needed a chart and markers when I did.

*********

One clarification: ArenaNet does not ban names. Name blocks for characters and guilds are done by our NCsoft Support Team.

I hope you'll realize -- well, those of you not spamming, that is -- that this is not an "us versus them" thing. This sure as heck isn't a me thing. I did not block the name. I would not have blocked the name. I had plenty of chances to report the name -- I follow the ladder and the tournaments -- and I didn't. I do understand that the guild has been around a long time -- I think I remember them last summer and for sure in the fall. Their having been around a long time and having not been blocked makes it a surprise that it happened now. And I agree, if someone waited until the guild had the cape and then spammed reports to try to get this done, or if someone who lost in the tournament tried to cause this, that's just wrong.

I have no one I can ask for details at this hour. I will ask. I don't know if there's anything that can be done about it, if there's a way to appeal, but I will ask about that, too.

I was not posting this in hopes of a "us vs them" it's really not that at all, I wanted to find out if people think this is as unjustified and cruel as I think it is

on top of that, until our guild leader comes on tomorrow we are kind of at a loss for knowing:

a) if we can change our name
b) if we reform, will we be given the cape back & rating?

becuase currently the guild has 1,196 rating but no rank as it is not gvg eligible when banned.. we cannot send out guild invites or guest invites.

I want to know if the silver trim and the 196 rating points were all just a waste of time or if anet can revoke the ban

i am Kite Better Please from vibe; ive been in the guild for 3 full seasons and never thought we would get banned. Honestly, if one really gets the vulgar meaning of the guild name, imo that person is mature enough to handle it. If Anet were to ban all the names that appear inappropriate, I don't think there would be many choices left for names; one could find wrong with almost any word or phrase. Our particular guild name is extremely clever in terms of how we chose to display and really shouldn't cause any problems to anyone, only to those who truly hate our guild and our success.

It also doesn't make sense that we get banned now after winning the cape for the 3 day tourny and appearing on the website about 8 months ago.

Messner brought up a good point, why don't they actually work on the damn word filters in the first place. I mean for crying out loud I can't make my dervish PvP Char, Weed Wacker, because it has the word WEED in it. And yet their allowing the name Ass in a guild name and come back to complain about it?

This is just as bad when they told us we were going to have a fun game in factions...minus AB, I love AB.

The name was an ambiguous double entendre (at the worst). The guild has been around for a year+, apparently. Said guild has accomplished much, the name has been out there for all to see. Banning them so long after the fact is just a nice way to alienate a lot of people, even though the name itself only alienates a few at most.

As a side note, did anyone notice the change in tone between Gaile's 1st and 2nd posts?

I'm actualy pretty sure that the name was actualy changed to "Offensive Guild Name Here" with the tag being [ban]. Still, a very valid point.

Default Jeez...

jeez... If your old enough to understand what "battery powered best friend" is in reference to, then you probably wouldn't be offended by it. Children wouldn't get the reference.

I think its pretty lame to ban the guild name.

How about doing something productive like making OLD FoW armor INSCRIBABLE???
